As many of you know, I’ve been encouraging everyone to take 2007 by storm by getting our butts into gear and taking action (and no prisoners ;) ).

Since this year has started, I have noticed some amazing shifts :: in myself, in my community, and even more importantly, in our collective consciousness.

The Chicago Bears go to the Super Bowl!Ironically, the event that led me to recognize all of this was yesterday’s NFL Championship game, in which the Bears c*r*u*s*h*e*d the Saints (YEAH Baby!!). Our Chicago team is the talk of the town, but the real story behind all of this fanfare is that this Super Bowl is one of historical proportions. For the first time in history, an African-American coach has made it to the Super Bowl - and get this - it’s not one, but TWO talented African-American coaches who will be there.

This reminded me of a news article I had glanced over earlier this week - no matter what your political affiliation, I think we can all safely say it’s exciting news to know that both a woman and an African-American are, for the first time ever, serious contenders for the White House. FeedBurner’s Rick Klau (also here in Chicago) is blogging with glee.

To me, these aren’t just new ideas - they represent a true paradigm shift in how all of us are thinking. But if you’re still not convinced, just the fact that Al Gore and George W. have actually agreed on an issue should be enough to seal the deal. :)

Now, I don’t care if you are a Democrat or Republican - it’s the historical shifts in perception that are the news here. And 2007 is indeed already taking the world by storm.

So what does this mean for us? It means it’s time to Put Up, or Shut Up. We were put upon this planet for a purpose - bloggers, stay-at-home-moms parents, entrepreneurs and small business owners alike are here to contribute.

So, it’s Monday, and I ask of you - what are you doing today to continue to make 2007 a paradigm shift?

My husband, an African-American, commented on this history-making event yesterday in his message entitled “Two Black Coaches Super Bowl Bound!!” (URL is http://whenleastexpected.com/2007/01/21/two-black-coaches-super-bowl-bound/ ) at his blog When Least Expected™ (URL is http://whenleastexpected.com/ ). He deals with a lot of the issues that affect African-Americans in a positive, thought-provoking way to challenge others to raise the level of their thinking. It is indeed a shame it took 41 years for this paradigm shift to happen because of somebody’s false belief that African-American men lacked the intellectual acuity to be a head coach in the NFL.
