What would Mondays be without Monday Motivation? (OK, don’t answer that.)
I’m proud to say that I’m walking my talk much better lately when it comes to work-life balance. I hardly looked at my computer at all this weekend (except to tell Ellen that she nearly moved me to tears with her post late Friday night!!).
I hope you’ll play along and get things done today too. All you have to do is let us know what you plan to get done today, and tell us what will motivate you to do so! Is is a shopping spree, or the threat of no coffee? (Which seems to scare the crap out of many of you!!)
I commit to you, fair readers, to do the following before I go to sleep tonight:
- Respond to every comment made on the blog today
(this has been increasingly difficult lately, but it’s too important to let go any longer!!) - Clean out my inbox
(265 items! :O ) - Spend 1.5 hours reading Presenting Magically
(SOBCon is this Friday!!!) - Spend 30 minutes on my SOBCon presentation
- Do my son’s school registration package
- Call my coach Alan
- Write two blog posts
If I don’t do all of this today I will PayPal $10 to 10 of you fine folks.
So what are YOU going to get done today?!
Wendy,
Without reading your post about being vunerable and still run a business I don’t know if I would have shared all I did in my post. Thank you.
Now, as for what I am going to get done today:
1. Do prep work for 3 appointments for my client.
2. Have lunch with my father.
3. Do laundry so I have clothes to wear at SOBCon (I don’t want to show up naked).
Laundry will be the hardest one to do. I’ll let you know if I get it done or not.
1. I am going to write a post on my blog about breast cancer. (Just about finished, and will start working on tomorrow’s post.)
2. I am going to get a good start on setting up a weight room in my home.
3. I am going grocery shopping and buying only healthy things to eat.
4. I am going to purchase Mother’s Day gifts for my mother and mother-in-law.
5. I am going to enjoy a nice ice cold glass of Yerba Mate!
My motivation: Having the satisfaction of crossing these things off my to-do list, getting to number 5, and knowing I accomplished something today and can work on something else tomorrow.
Okay… been following this topic long enough.. it’s time to commit (ouch!)
1. Bottle the wine that has been sitting on the counter for too long
2. Write one post
3. Pay the bills that are due
4. Do a podcast and get it online
5. Read a chapter in 2 weeks to a breakthrough
6. Wash the patio floor
If I don’t get it done… I’m going to cancel my flight lesson for tomorrow. (and that would suck!)
@ Ellen
SOBCon -
Take Your Blog to the Next LevelSee Ellen NakedHhhmmm….. I don’t know about you, but I think we’d sell a lot more tickets.
@ Julie
A Weight Room in your house? I stay a size 6 by doing lots of bending and lifting (pick up laundry… pick up stuffed Sponge Bob… lift kid with boo boo… )
@ Dave
Welcome aboard! That’s some serious leverage you threw down - you must mean business!
My todo list
1. Figure out a way to nicely tell my boss you’re the idiot who keeps losing the fedex packages not me as I have no place to hide them in my tiny little office
2. Get my text-link-ads working on pjmommy
3. Monetizing my site in a better way, or figure out a way to milk jenny into adding a 3rd column. I loves jenny haha
4. Work on my sites.
Wendy!!! You’re amaing. Where you find all of the hours in a day to accomplish your goals is beyond me!!!
Today I will:
1. Finish 3 website articles and email them to my developer with instructions.
2. Beef up my About Us page
And…I won’t eat any chocolate today until my goals are accomplished.
Wendy….because you’ll be responding to this post today I’ve got a question for you: Will you be attending or speaking at the blogher conference in July?
Thanks much and good luck today.

Thanks Helene
In regards to BlogHer - I will definitely be attending, and it’s up in the air as to whether I will be speaking (although I have my fingers crossed!! ).
Since it’s being held here in Chicago, there’s no way I would miss it!! Will I see you there?!
Okay, this is my first time participating in the Monday Motivation so I need to start small.
1. Wake up, get dressed and go to work.
2. Get home and watch the Bulls game.
3. Go to bed.
Hmm, I think that sounds about right. I actually really like this idea and will prepare better for next week!
Whoa, Derek - slow down, Bud. You’re getting way ahead of yourself here.
1. I’m going to bed earlier. I’ve been staying up late recently to try and get more done. I think it might be backfiring on me.
2. This is a tough one, but I’m going to watch a movie to review on my blog.
3. 15 minutes worth of cleaning to get the house ready to sell. It might sound small, but breaking it up in small chunks makes it manageable (and not overwhelming). Plus, I’m surprised at how much I can get done in just 15 minutes!
Well its 18:19 here so ive done pretty much what i wanted
1.Start Our Forum Competition
2. Organise Firefox Bookmarks
3.Sort out some emails
Wendy, like I recommend to people trying to eliminate debt on my personal finance site - start with a small success and build momentum.
Since I was a little too easy on myself, I’ll revise my list:
1. Send out Joost invites to people that have made request on my blog.
2. Write one new blog post for each of my two blogs.
3. Design an offline advertising page for my comparison credit card site.
4. Determine why I haven’t heard about SOBCon even though I live in the Chicago area.
5. Enjoy the Bulls game with my two kids.
BTW, I really like your first goal as I recently wrote a post about how often you should respond to comments. Like you, I try to respond to every comment.
@ Nathania - my husband would LOVE to write on a blog like yours!!
@ Glen - where are you located? I assumed you were here in the states.
@ Derek - You live here too?! Where? I’m out west by the Fox Valley!
PS - Now you’ve GOT to come to SOBCon!! There are still tickets available (www.sobevent.com)!
Wendy,
You’ve got a deal!
1. At least 2 posts on each of my blogs
2. Like Derek, enjoy the PISTONS game
3. call my mom
4. write a love letter
5. and comment on all my friends’ blogs
Side note, please take a whole lot of pictures Wendy! I wont be at the SOBCon , and the pictures would mean a great deal. Thanks..
Wendy - I had the best of intentions today but the duties of motherhood intervened - I spent the entire morning at the doctor’s office with two of my kids. So much for getting any work done. So now I have 2 hours to get a conference call in, and take care of a few pressing client issues.
Tomorrow will be a more productive day.
@ Nicholas - Pictures PROMISED!
Char - BLAH and yeah, sick kids pretty much trumps every hand. Sorry they are down for the count!
@Wendy - Small world, I’m out a little further west of Fox Valley.
I’m reviewing the SOBCon site right now and really contemplating attendance. I don’t think I could make it Friday night and am trying to see if I can swing the cost of registration at this short notice.
Thanks Wendy! I’ll look forward to meeting you at the Blogher Conference.
Good luck today.
Helene
Oh my gosh. I have so many big projects to do that I end up just sort of spacing out and not doing any of them. I’ve been reading your GTD for a while now but haven’t participated. That ends now. Maybe a little accountability is what I really need.
1. Write at least two country histories for one of my jobs.
2. Write a post for the Something Good blog.
3. Email Ramon about volunteering for my other job.
4. Send out invitation to this month’s Bunco.
5. Write guest post requested for one of my communities.
6. Write in my gratitude journal.
If I do not accomplish these six things before going to bed tonight, I will mow the lawn tomorrow (instead of waiting for my husband to get around to it), will not drink pop for the rest of the week (it’s my version of coffee), and will get up at 6:00 a.m. for the rest of the week (NO!). Whew. Believe it or not, that’s a pretty big gauntlet I just threw down for myself.
I assure you Lorna - I believe it. :O
Okay, I caught this halfway through my day, and I’m already halfway there, but here’s my list:
1. follow-up with several clients
2. prepare to go live with a site tomorrow, final housekeeping, 301’s etc.
3. schoolwork with the kids
4. work on a new ppc campaign
On Mondays I have both kids with me so I must stay realistic..
1) write one blog entry
2) finish Organizer Extraordinaire coupon to be e-mailed tomorrow
3) prepare for tomorrow’s organizing gig
no vegging out (or bedtime) until all is complete
I’m always happy to see you here Lisa!
Sue - you are a commenting Queen - thank you so much for your wonderful participation around here!
No wendy were based in the UK.
P.S another goal i forgot to mention is being the first commentor on a digg homepage story (seriously)
and the story I was backing and commented first just hit the homepage (despite loads of random thumbs down hehe)
I caught this at the end of the day. However here is what I got done.
1. Offered assistance to fellow mompack members in need of website assistance.
2. Set up my business blog.
3. Posted to my creative works blog.
4. Signed up for Wendy’s eBlogging course
5. Finally got down to answering some questions I wrote down for myself about my business and posted them to my business blog.
6. Acknowledged and answered requests for other mompackers to send me samples
I was going to work on my sole web site clients website but mmm that didn’t happen today so tomorrow I will work on it.
7. Went shopping and bought some healthy stuff
8. Made dried apples
9. tried to teach my son meditation(yeah right) LOL.
10. Walked a half a mile with him this evening
Is that enough lol. I tend to do better getting things done now that I have some good networking sites for moms who work at home or are just working period. It is helping me stay motivated.

(You were the motivation to enter Darren’s Group Writing Project — my first time!! ;-0
@ Glen - that’s great to be the first commenter - I’ve found that just doing that can drive traffic to your site!
@ Joe - Good God do I feel inadequate!
@ Dave - got my stuff done too - now we both get to play!
@ Katherine and Sherri - I’m all for Terrific Tuesday - the point is to get your stuff done in a way that works for you!
well today the only thing I have gotten done is banging my head against the computer screen cause I have a musical composer client who think he knows programming and his website looks like crap because he wont let me take any design risks
