Monday Motivation :: I Need Some Leverage!

Posted February 5th, 2007 by Wendy Piersall

For drastic achievements, drastic action must be taken. :)

I have 66 emails in my inbox that currently require a response, some action, or follow up.

Today I commit to you, my readers,
that my inbox will be empty by 8:00pm tonight.

If I don’t complete my task, I will pay you $25. I will select 6 random people to send $25 if I do not do what I say I will do! (To be considered, you must play along and be productive, too! Keep reading!)
If you want to participate, leave a comment on this post:

  • Tell us what you are committing to
  • Tell us what your leverage is - what you will have to do if you don’t get it done
  • Tell us when your deadline is
  • Then GET TO WORK! :)

One little hint - you can only commit to things that you can control - so don’t commit to anything that depends on anyone else for you to complete.

Let’s make this Monday a kick-butt productive start to the week!

I’m in!!! I have a project deadline of Wednesday and I am dragging my feet. I would like to get at least 2 hours of work done on it today.

    If I don’t, I will pay you $25!

I’m in! I have to write 8 articles today and haven’t even started. If I don’t finish I’ll pay you $25.

I’m being productive as I can with a sick kid at home. Good luck!

I’m in! I need to blog at least once on all of my blogs - do some paid posts, at least a few, and search with ChaCha for at least one hour, and find someone who can help me fix my messed-up WP blog, Bookworm Broadcast.

    If I don’t do it …. I’ll do twenty push-ups tonight!

eeks! Pure torture - I better get to work!!!

No more message boards for me! LOL!!

I have a set of keys to a community that I was supposed to return over a week ago. I commit to return the keys TODAY!

If I don’t get it done I’m going to forfeit my $100 deposit on the community center rental!

My deadline for myself is today, hopefully my deposit hasn’t been taken yet!

  6. Rosemary Says:

I’m in, too! I’m sick as a dog for the 2nd week, but trolling through e-mail. It will be finished in one hour. Wish me luck!!

First time here after the “Bloke” linked to all of us and gotta say this post caught my eye!

I have 180 mails (average over 7 days) that require me to respond or do something daily - right now I’m batting about 90% completion each day (I did with a large technical community) - not sure the money bit would motivate me it’s more than I know another 180 are waiting after I log off :-)

    Good luck to you!

    Craig

Welcome, Craig! And also to all of the rest of you who have commented for the first time! :)

I have already decided to make this a Monday tradition, so any time you need a productivity boost on a Monday morning, head on over!

And Craig - you’re free to create whatever leverage works for you. When I did this weekly with my in-person mastermind group, I threatened to grow out my usually well-hidden moustache *yikes!*. I assure you - I got my stuff DONE!

[…] Just a quick update - I’m done with cleaning out my inbox. Whew! […]

  10. Lill Says:

I promised to finish proofreading a 200-plus page manuscript by Wednesday and have it half finished. I’ll finish it today. I also need to add an entry to my blog, find more products to feature on my website and tweak it. And I have to work around a goodbye dinner for my niece at a local restaurant, so I’ll be doing most of this tonight. But I WILL get it done, or I’ll do the snowplowing tomorrow instead of my teenaged son.
