Freelance Advice from the Blogosphere, Part 4

I just don’t get the paradox.  In some ways, this week has been soooo loooong, and in other ways, it has just flown right by!  I mean, it seems like we started the Win Your Very Own Freelancing Octopus contest weeks ago already.  (Speaking of which, you only have a little time left to enter.)  On the other hand, I could swear I thought I’d have that law firm’s announcement all wrapped up by now.  I’m going to have to dig out that old book on Einstein and remind myself that time is a relative thing after all.

Generally on Fridays I try to link you to blogs or posts that I think you’ll find really helpful in developing your freelance business.  In that vein, I had planned to use today’s links to expound on Tamara’s piece on how to market your freelance business locally by supplementing today’s edition with links to all kinds of great posts on the topic.  Instead, I’m going to mix it up a little and introduce you to a couple of new (to me) blogs that are just plain amusing from a freelancer’s point of view.

While I’m over here carefully choosing my words so as not to be offensive when I talk about Unethical Employers, some of these other bloggers are pulling very few punches in talking about difficult clients.  For that, they make me laugh right out loud.  I don’t think I’d ever be quite so brazen, but I will read them in the protection of my own home and will smirk and nod knowingly.

  • Craigslist Curmudgeon reviews “freelancer wanted” ads on Craigslist, and they don’t usually like what they see.
  • Kathy, aka the Irreverent Freelancer, goes so far as to send out a big Screw You to unreasonable clients.
  • While blogging annonymously, Writing Frump also has a thing or two to say to clients who are irrational, unprofessional, or just plain annoying.
  • I’ve just come across Freelance Cynic, so I can’t give you much of a run-down.  It looks like it’ll be one to watch.  The Brits have such a lovely grasp of snark.

I would love to add other snarky blogs to my Google Reader, so if you have any suggestions . . .
