Monday Motivation :: I am the Home Office Ninja

I am the Home Office NinjaWell, I am astonished that my work last week made such a huge impact on my productivity. I had set up email filters in the past, but I didn’t think that setting aside more time to set up more filters would really make that much of a difference. But last week, I set aside about an hour (probably less than that), and more than doubled the number of email filters set up.

Usually on Monday Motivation, I’ve got anywhere between 250-350 emails to contend with by the time I go to sleep. Thanks to my brand spanking new email filters I’ve knocked that number down to 70 before I even started my day. Can I just stop and say WOW?

WOW.

It’s quite motivating in and of itself to have so much less on my plate at the start of the week. Like I might even be able to, um, make some money today instead of answer emails! I feel the Ninja blood running through my veins already!

So in case you were wondering, Monday Motivation works like this:

Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).

Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.

Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done!

Today before I go to sleep I will:

  • Empty out my inbox of 70 emails
  • Take my daughter out to finish her photography school project
  • Meditate done!
  • Write another blog post
  • Clean my desk
  • Work for 1 hour on 2008 projections (I need the Ninja mindset to get me through this ugly task!)

If I don’t have all of this done by the time I go to sleep tonight, I will go without coffee for a week (a Ninja needs her fuel, after all!).

So, how are you going to be a Home Office Ninja this Monday?

I really wish I could get motivated today! I feel so blah:( My desk looks like the mafia was looking for some important document and I need to update one of my blogs but can’t seem to find something that really interests me. I would like to do tutorials but don’t know what software to use for that sort of thing.

Anyways, good luck with your list…I’m off to take some photos for my personal blog.

Today is all about getting this big project edited so I can get the next big project written. I’ve got miles to go, but I’m intending to have the entire thing edited by the time I go to bed tonight. Not only that, but I’m even going to get some rest this afternoon! I know . . . that’s crazy talk. But, it has to be done. I won’t even lay down consequences for not getting it done, because that isn’t an option!

Yes last weeks getting the inboxes clear was a fantastic goal. I am now about to integrate my gmail with my .mail so that’s this weeks project.

    For today,

    Write a blog post
Clear the in trays- paper based
Declutter my studio- 20 mins- DONE
Mind Map my Blog plan for 2008
Get my to do list down to 10 items- this will get me out of overwhelm.

If I don’t get this done I will not be going to my Art/quilt meet tomorrow

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Monday Motivation, but it’s good to be back ;)

As usual it’s my Tuesday Motivation, so please forgive me =P

    1. Complete my post about virtual world for kids and how they are a web 2.0 moneymaker
    (http://www.thebetanews.com/virtual-worlds-for-kids-are-the-next-web-20-money-maker/)

    2. Figure out how not to post long urls in comments. It looks so noobish /blush

    3. Should I start a contest on my blog? Should I see if I can get some prize sponsors? What happens if no one answers? In other terms seriously consider if I should start a contest

    4. Make up my mind. Should I buy Brian Gardner’s brilliant theme Tech Revolution.

I wish I could say that I won’t drink coffee for a week if I don’t do this, but I rarely drink it.

Instead if I complete these by the end of the week. I’ll sign up for the body bike (spinning) course.

Forget Monday, I’m going with this week’s motivation:

    1. Unsubscribe to blogs by email, and put them on my blogliness rss reader instead.

    2. Start organizing my digital photos using Adobe Photo Elements (this is a multi-week project.)

    3. Finalize my blog structure.

    4. Build a safety net of 3-4 blog posts to use when I don’t have time to blog.

    5. Write and mail homeschool quaterly report.

    6. Pack for trip to the Virgin Islands gradually this week, so I don’t end up doing it at the last minute.

Thanks for the kick in the pants! Just writing this out makes me want to get going.

Nice to see that your inbox is on the right track and, as a word of advice: take care of answering your emails after you get everything else done, this approach works wonders :)
