Weekend Debate :: What’s Your Favorite Online Money Maker?

We talk about so many ways to make money online around here - I know that Darren Rowse, though rather private about his earnings, makes a ton of money on his photography blogs with Chitika. John Chow makes most of his money from affiliate sales, and I’ll admit that most of my earnings fluctuate between coming from direct advertisers and affiliate sales, depending on the month.

When I find a great direct advertiser that also adds value to our readers’ experience, nothing makes me happier - like with Search Engine Guide, who not only provides valuable content, but they also sent one of the eMoms at Home readers to BlogHer this last summer. I have another one as great as Search Engine Guide to announce soon as well. ;)

My favorite actual ad program is TextLinkAds, because even though it’s not my top earner, it provides the most consistent income and I don’t have to think about it - money just comes in like clockwork on the first of every month.

But I’m curious - what is your favorite program, tool, ad network, etc. that you earn money with on your blog or site? You needn’t disclose how much you earn from it, but which one is your top earner? Or do you have a favorite earner that maybe isn’t tops in dollars, but is tops in another way?

    Hi,

I actually just started blogging just over a month ago, but have tried AdSense. It didn’t really work that well, but am trying BlogRush and will eventually try Pay Per Post. I heard that these seem to be pretty good.

Let me know your thoughts on it.

    Thanks,

    Richard

I have to say affiliate sales through the Magnetic Sponsoring bootcamp. I get lots of sign-ups for the free bootcamp at my personal bio page MeetShiraz.com.

People love it, get their minds blown, and then buy the book. A must have for all network marketers.

adsense has been my all time favorite BUT,

I want to write my own checks so I’m trying to move towards selling my own products/services on my sites now.

I would love to use text link ads but whenever I visit a site that has them I find it a little annoying so I figured my readers would get annoyed too. It’s the bubbles that pop up that make the reading experience frustrating.

Oh, Windyridge, that’s not TextLinkAds - that’s Kontera (or any number of their competitors).

TextLinkAds are Super-UN-Intrusive - right now I have them in the middle column at the top, the text links right under “Lovable Sponsors”.

Seriously, if you thought TLA was the bubble ads, you should really go sign up right away - I hate those bubble ads too and you’re leaving money on the table. :)

Payperpost brings in the most money for me.

This is a good thread. It’s interesting to see what works for different bloggers. On my personal blogs I have tried PayPerPost and Sponsored Reviews. I’m also signed up with ReviewMe, but no real takers.

I’m still a pretty new blogger too but so far I’ve made the most from direct advertising on my posts…someone just found me and offered to buy space! Next is BlogHer ads.

After that, I haven’t seen much from Amazon and nothing from Text Link Ads. If I understand it correctly, someone buys link ads on your site so I guess no one wants to buy some on my site yet!

You know I had no idea that the links under Lovable Sponsors were your text link ads until I read your comment above. Hmmm.

Do buyers buy based on your Technorati raning for Text Link Ads?

Google Adsense is still the one that has made me the most money.

I don’t think I’ve earned anything with TLA yet, honestly I’m not even sure how it works. I’m using the plugin, perhaps an idea for a post Wendy?

I’m using Chikita on my FIFA 08 blog, but it took me 2 months to make $15. Perhaps I’m not using it right.

I’m earning a bit from various Amazon referrals, though they are cheap ;)

Kontera (in-text-ads) has also earned me a bit, but again only on my product related blogs (fifa2008news.com).

My blogs that have high traffic earn more from adsense. Those that have some PageRank earn more from TLA.

I have not found any good affiliate programs for my niche blogs. I received a $150 payement on one affiliate sale first and last.

I actually do the best with a Baby Shower invitation and stationery affiliate. I also like BlogHer ads and Blogads, though that one has slowed down.

I’d love to do TLA, but, I can’t make the code work. I think it’s because my permalinks aren’t the right structure for it.

I need to look into that some more.

TLA, for the clockwork reason, Wendy!

Actually, doing a direct long-term deal is probably my favorite, because it tends to generate the most satisfaction for the advertiser and the most revenue for the publisher.

I’ve done pretty well with adsense… I finally added a blog to a site I built last year this last summer. Since adding the blog, my traffic has more than doubled and so has my adsense! Love it… but - now I am intrigued to try TLA. Hmm…
