Monday Motivation :: Summer Slacker Mode

Monday MotivationIt’s mid August. I’m beginning to wonder if anyone is on the internet at all these days. ;) I’ve been taking off more time lately as well, realizing school is just a couple weeks away and I need more kid time! We’ve been to the pool, Millennium Park, and on several boat trips lately - making for less work time, to be sure.

Millennium ParkSummer Boating! But honestly, I’m feeling more motivated this week than last week - perhaps it’s the excitement of the fact that my youngest is starting in kindergarten this fall and for the first time in almost 13 years I will have true free time *wiggles with glee*!

Anyway, onto getting stuff done today, especially since I had to do a little weeding last week

So what the heck is Monday Motivation, anyway?

Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).

Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.

Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done!

Today before I go to sleep I will:

  1. Clean out my inbox of 255 emails
  2. Make dentist appointments for my kids
  3. Hound kids to:
    1. Clean up toys in yard
    2. Clean up fireplace room
    3. Sort laundry

If I don’t get all of this done before I go to bed tonight I will give an extra $100 to Kiva tomorrow.

So what are you going to get done today?

Wendy - I just got back from vacation and my mind had plenty of time to construct a monstrous to-do list. Now if I could only get motivated to get it all done.

I am also looking forward to the first day of school and time to myself for the first time in 11 years - woo-hoo for Kindergarten.

    Wendy,

I’m so excited about eMomsatHome these days. Sure, I’ve been reading it for months, but I’m now officially starting my own business and am expecting a baby. So, even though I’ve been a poseur up to now, I feel like I’m legit at this point. ;-)

    Anway, Monday Motivation:

    1. Bid on three jobs
    2. Write tomorrow’s post
    3. Finish cleaning the living room

If I don’t finish these three things before I go to bed, I will not get to watch my Tuesday shows tomorrow evening.

It’s been a busy weekend for me. After all I had to move all day Saturday and Sunday. For me, my Monday to-do list is short.

    1. Get rid of most of these boxes.

    I need to:
    1. run 45mins (last thing I feel like doing!)
    2. Finish tomorrows posts tonight.

If not I will have to get up far too early for my liking tomorrow morning to accomplish them!

It is Monday evening here but I have done a lot today.

    1. I am big on decluttering and simplifying my life so I gave away 2 bags of stuff to a friend who really appreciated the stuff.

    2. I made arrangements for products that a client urgently needs because she is flying tomorrow evening and wants the products before she leaves. I was able to get the products for her :)

    3. Took my daughter to an art class and the library.

And more. Was a good day. Now have to write my blog spot and then will cuddle up with a book.

Sigh. In the past few weeks…my laptop crashed and my hosting company broke. I still don’t know what’s going on but my sites have been down for 5 days. Grrr.

Basically, I’m catching up. Tonight, I mean, this morning I am, because I didn’t backup my site, going through Google cache and saving what i can from my sites just in case i never get them back from my host (DSTinternet - never buy from them ever!!!!).

I can’t bring myself to set any additional consequences.

Wendy…Its Tuesday afternoon in Sydney, Australia. And we are in the middle of our busiest term in school. Our summer holidays are in December. It has been a good day for me today so far.

    1. I cleaned up my inbox.
    2. Planned for my week - I do my weekly goals and plans on Tuesdays.
    3. Wrote a lot of content for one of my websites.
    4. Did my accounts.

    Thats it so far.

Hi, I just have a question for you Wendy, or anyone else who can answer it (I haven’t found a firm answer with google)…you opened with “It’s mid August. I’m beginning to wonder if anyone is on the internet at all these days”….

Is August a very slow month for traffic? I’ve had a drop in my traffic, beginning about 2 weeks ago….starting to wonder if it’s me, or if this is a trend….maybe people are vacationing before school starts back up??

Any feedback, I’d love to hear it, thanks! :)

JoLynn - yes, I’ve experienced definite seasonal traffic highs and lows thus far. Easton Ellsworth and I were talking about it as well earlier this week. August is traditionally a slow month on the internet across the board (depending on your niche, of course!).

For home business, I’ve found that late summer and the holidays are the worst time of year for me. That’s because most moms and dads are doing the least amount of work on their businesses at these times of the year - and the most time is spent with family.

But even when I was working in an office environment, I saw the same pattern - most people are taking up vacation time around now to squeeze in fun at the end of the summer and to get their kids ready for back to school (shopping, medical appointments, etc.).

I expect September to hit me like a ton of bricks. :D

Thanks Wendy! I’m blogging about health and fitness, and I can see it being a possibility that more people are “relaxed” about how they are eating and exercising right now, so maybe that is affecting my traffic. I hope that September brings a change for me, just like you expect it in your niche. :)
