I swear - this week the ONLY reason I am doing this Monday Motivation is because of tradition and because I don’t want to let you down. I guess that’s exactly why this kind of motivation works, eh?
I don’t know if it’s midsummer laziness, too much boredom, or simply because I’ve been flirting with burnout lately. This is the part of being my own boss that I just hate. If I can’t motivate my only employee [me.], I’m a bit screwed, dontcha think?! Thankfully, I know I’ll make it through this to the other side, but that doesn’t make it much easier to get there.
I’m sure none of you can relate. < / sarcasm >
So what the heck is Monday Motivation, anyway?
Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).
Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.
Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is particularly
Today before I go to sleep I will:
- Clean out my inbox of 181 emails (This ongoing task is one of the reasons I dread Mondays - but I swear I don’t think I could get through them otherwise!!)
- Get one affiliate campaign up
- Work 2 hours on new site launch
If I don’t have this done by the time I go to sleep tonight, I will weed my garden on Wednesday. Blech.
So what are you going to get done?

Imagine having to motivate your only employee and you can’t even pay that employee :-\
I know I’m an eDad at Home, but your Monday Motivations always help me get back on track after the weekend so I hope you don’t mind an “other”.
I will be:
* making 3 posts on Dadviser
* 1-2 posts on my other father blog
* 1-2 posts on a new site that I’m launching soon
* Calling up Bluehost and seeing why they haven’t resolved a three day issue >:O
* Calling the property manager, one of my marketing clients and the family law mediator (don’t ask…)
* Sending out 2 proposals for my marketing company
* Celebrating in the slight chance that I actually get all that done
Good luck today! I know I’ll need it.
I cant believe you actually get so many emails. Surely you can filter them a bit for increased productivity?
@ Dadviser - I totally needed to hear that today - it made writing the post a worthwhile endeavor!
And I’m always happy to have eDads around here - there’s quite a few, and I’m actually going to be adding some additional dad-centric content just because I like you guys so darn much!
@ Glen - what makes you think I don’t filter?! The 181 is what is left to go through to determine what I still need to follow up on - I get about 1000+ emails a week!
Ok maybe I can finally do one of these! Yesterday I made all my posts for Sundays through October, so today I would like to make another post for today and two for tomorrow.
Also review a site I saw today.
Help my mom install a new mailbox.
Network with people tonight at a social gathering spot.
Go to bed @ 12 am and not 3 am.
Coolio, you’ve written out all of your posts through November?!?!?!
Holy #$%&.
I don’t enter Monday mornings seeking Motivation, I focus on simply creating some “Monday Momentum” and the motivation always follows. (and it always begins on Sunday night with deciding what kind of week I am going to create). Everything after that is much easier.
Momentum breeds Momentum

Wendy I think Coolio meant just on sundays. Im currently just over 2 weeks in advance so things are going well. Gives me a lot of time to networking in the online communities
Wendy I can only imagine what you get them all about; I think for some reason I would feel priviledged to get that many emails (weird huh?)
Just remmebered (feel free to merge comments). Im actually using a screenshot of your comments section on an up and coming post so if you reply back to this post and say its OK then ill take it out of draft mode. I hope it will save you from my emails
Wendy - I’m glad you decided to post your MM post even though you weren’t in the mood. I agree that the expectations of others is sometimes the most motivating method of all.
My goal is to get a bunch of loose ends wrapped up this evening so I can go on vacation the rest of the week. I am taking my laptop though and will be doing a bit of work while I’m gone.
Glen - emails from readers I like are *never* a problem! Send me a link to what you’ve got, I’ll be interested in reading it!
Char - I think you’re doing what most of my regular readers are doing - realizing that summer is almost over and we’d better get our fun in while we can! Talk tomorrow!
Wendy - It would throw my entire week out of whack if you didn’t post your MM. Why, that would be like having a day without coffee *gasp*
Glad you dug deep and found the motivation.
Next time you’re coming to Indy, let me know a week ahead so I can pump up on the Vitamin C
Monday’s almost over and I’m happy to say I wrote ahead for a couple of my blogs, found a major bug in a theme, did some networking. That is enough for today.Next week I’ll come by in the morning to state my intention instead of my done list.
Glad to have come across your page, I was looking for something like this I have wanted to start a home business for years and have no idea what direction to turn.. aye yi yi I need guidance!
Yep, Glen got it. I’ve taken a new approach to blogging, as I am standardizing most of my practices so I can concentrate on promotions. I will be talking about this on my blog soon as well, but since I know the subject area I will write about each day, it helps in planning out weeks and even months in advance. Add the automatic scheduling of Wordpress, and I almost never have to look at my blog except for responding to comments and checking stats.
I’ve become super-serious about making blogging a success story! I’ve got 1½ hours left so I can still squeeze in my tasks and make it to bed on time!
Today I’m going to figure out exactly how to cram 2 weeks of electrical installs into 4 days, then write it down so I can repeat the feat next week. But first, I’m going to spend 5 minutes admiring how you get yourself motivated.
