It is no secret that I love any craft with my girls’ handprints on them! So in addition to this special keepsake, I also cherish this colorful handprint turkey that my daughter brought home from school. How did her teacher know I had a thing for handprints?
Not only do I get an adorable handprint turkey, I get a sweet poem that goes with it. Since it’s hard to read, here’s what it says:
This isn’t just a turkey
As anyone can see.
I made it with my hand
Which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love
Especially to say,
I hope you have a very
Happy Thanksgiving Day!
Here’s What You Need to Make a Colorful Handprint Turkey:
- Red construction paper (or any color of your choice!)
- White paper
- Black marker
- Brown, orange, red, yellow, blue, and green washable paint
- Paint brushes
- Glue
Here’s How to Make a Colorful Handprint Turkey:
1. Write the above poem on the left side of the white paper.
2. Glue the white paper to a piece of colored construction paper.
3. Using a paint brush, paint your child’s hand brown.
4. Using a paint brush, paint each of your child’s fingers a different color.
5. Place your child’s hand firmly on the white paper and lift straight up afterwards.
6. Wash your child’s hand.
7. Have your child paint on the turkey’s beak and legs. (And the red thingy that hangs below the beak. What is that called anyway?)
Now you have a colorful handprint turkey to hang up every Thanksgiving!
