Monday Motivation :: 2008 New Years Resolution Kickoff!

Monday MotivationLet’s change things up a bit for this version of Monday Motivation. Since it ‘Tis the season for resolutions and goals, I want to hear about your 2008 plans. You may have made personal resolutions, spiritual resolutions, and/or business resolutions. I want to hear about all of them.

Why? Because you can’t live a balanced and happy life (or run a balanced and happy business) without making sure that you are taking care of all parts of yourself.

I had a really stressful holiday season this year, and landed myself in a bit of a funk. Last year, I hit 2007 on all eight cylinders. This year? It was a stretch to get excited about goals and resolutions. But I cleaned my entire office yesterday and today I plan to fake it until I make it - meaning, I’m going to pretend I am moving full steam ahead and hope that the momentum will get me where I want to go! ;)

My goals for 2008 are:

  • Finish writing my business plan by mid-February
  • Meditate daily
  • Get my financial record keeping back on track (I slacked in the last half of 2007 and have a mountain of work ahead of me to get it in order!
  • Hit 500K monthly page views on eMoms at Home
  • Go to Europe for our 10 year wedding anniversary this May (A bit lofty, but I really want this to happen!!)
  • Roll out two major service/content expansions for this site by the end of the year
  • Hire a VA and a PR firm
  • Start working half-days on Fridays (This one just might be the hardest to do!)

I’m not going to lay down consequences if I don’t hit these goals, but I do hereby publicly promise you that I am going to do whatever it takes to make them happen in 2008.

So what are your resolutions for 2008?

Learn a new skill?
Quit your day job?
Increase or diversify revenue?
Start a side business?
More family time?
Get healthier?
Start a hobby?
Be more organized?

And here’s part two to that question - what can I do to help you reach your goals this year?

Leave a comment or write up your own post - and let’s ROCK 2008 together! :D

    Goals for 2008:

    Quit my day job.

    Brush up my chinese.

    Help my wife overcome syncope.

Direct 2 plays and perform in 2 plays.

Increase blogging income to cover my day to day expenses.

What eMom can do (since she asked):

I don’t know, figure out a way to hold me accountable to my goals.

I know a lot of people don’t believe in resolutions and such, but I think at the end of the year and the beginning of a new one is the perfect opportunity to assess, evaluate and plan.

So ‘08 is going to be a year of huge changes for me.
    1. quit job
    2. get another job
    3. Move to another country
    4. Open business in that other country.
Like you I am also considering getting a PR person; and also a career/ business coach. Still on the fence about it though.

I have quite a few goals, but here are the most important ones:

    - Build my blogs up to the point that they earn at least 50% of my monthly goal income.

    - Start painting again.

    - Build a bathroom. (currently sharing with the inlaws, half a block away)

    - Make at least one film and submit it to a film festival.

    - Write at least one ebook.

Not sure that you could help, just keep writing great posts! They encourage me to keep striving for what I want.

I blogged about my health and fitness goals on my site. Other goals include being more organized (ugh, how I will do this, I don’t know), being more patient with others, and building my blog.

and figuring out how I can get it all done. everyday. without pulling out my hair!

(can you tell it’s been a tough day already?)

Actually, Tamara and I just posted about this today. Our 2008 business goals:

    1. make enough money that neither of us needs a part-time job
    2. create a work schedule that works for our style
    3. be a Guide on About.com (one or both of us)
    4. develop our nonprofit client roster through our new blog
    5. do more subcontracted work during the first couple of months while Lorna adjusts to motherhood
    6. get at least two articles published in the print media

My biggest personal goal, of course, is to give birth to this baby and then be the best mother I can be!

How Wendy can help: Hm. Feel free to recommend us to anyone needing writing services! Also, by you hitting some of your goals, it will be good for us, too, since we write here at eMoms. :-D

I’m still working out the kinks, but one thing that has hit me is how everything is interlinked. Wanting to spend more time–better time–with my family will more likely happen if I’m feeling fulfilled in my work. Taking better care of my body is an act of deepening my faith. There are many things that I’d like to see this year bring, but even more I’d like to be centered through it all.

Because of my surgery on January 18, I doubt I’ll accomplish my goals this year.. However, if I lived in a perfect world and wasn’t just diagnosed with cancer for second time in three years this time in my ovary..my plans were something like the following:

Make a difference to parents and children regarding the importance of grandma’s and how she could be there for the family.

Write better, I’m self taught, and dyslexic. Proving anyone who makes an effort can do this.

    Learn to organize my bookmarks.

Read more regarding the back office of blogging.

Take some courses to help me understand the computer. I’m still in cyberspace more then I should be.

Work smarter accomplish more in less time.

    Build unique visitors.

Write a new post everyday..I think that means get disciplined.

And for fun, We own an Barack Obama fan site and we wondered if we should auction it and if that would bring traffic..I’m not kidding we really do.it’s number one in the fan site lineup. We bought it several months ago on a whim..go figure. I read about one blogger who auctioned something and got great name recognition. I’m wondering if we could do the same.

Finally, come through the surgery with a speedy recovery and no complications including Che mo which scares the hell out of me.

    Happy New Year Wendy!

Thank you so much for my red envelope, they’re so cute and I really needed some for my chaotic whiteboard too.

No wonder you’re feeling a bit [yeesh] at the mo, you put sooo much work into expanding the eMoms family last year. Biggy achievements like that would sap the juice from anyone!

You’re 2008 goals are fantastic and I’m sure that if you have anything to do with it, they’ll get whipped :)

I posted some crafty goals here http://emomsathome.com/craft-boom/7-achievable-new-year-resoloutions-to-make-2008-the-start-of-something-craftacular/

As for my own goals, I have 2 major ones:

    1. Write a bag making book, and if time allows begin designing my own line of bag patterns.
    2. Launch a product line which has my own branding on it (I have to keep schtum about what it is).

It’s going to be fun and interesting trying!

My Goals for 2008 are in no particular order:
Be able to answer the question “How have you been?” with “Calm and Relaxed” as opposed to “busy”.
    See more live music.
Start earning an income whilst still being at home (I have been out of the paid workforce for 6 years!).
Drop 3 kg in extra weight and stick to my gym sessions 3 times a week.
Let my children do more for themselves, as is age appropriate.
    Have a family holiday.
    Understand more about the blogoshere.

And as for how Wendy could help (which is a really cool thing to put down), probably point me to the right places on this site that could help me achieve the above! Thanks

    Hi Wendy,

Your post is keeping me inspired to stick to my goals for 2008 so before I hop on my treadmill (my fitness goal is to exercise more) while my toddler is napping here’s my list and link to my new year’s post:
    http://itsabelly.typepad.com/the_itsabelly_blog/2008/01/happy-2008-free.html

I’m making a lifestyle change by: -tracking my food intake
-exercising at least 3-4 times a week drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day
-going to bed by 10 pm most days -getting organized using GTD
-focus on a few priorities at a time instead of being scattered!

Oh, there are consequences to not following through on my fitness/health goals too. I can’t get on my computer at the end of the day if I haven’t exercised. For me being on my computer is totally critical because getting work done when my baby is sleeping at night is the only time I have to sit and focus. My husband’s consequence is he can’t watch sports after work if he didn’t go to the gym that day. Big one for him!!

I missed this yesterday - darn, I can say that while goals are often the same each year - make more money ( blah, blah, blah)

the solutions on the horizen are very intriquing this year

deepen my affiliate nutritional counsulting work ie work smarter - 20 new clients a month

tout to all, that business is NOT business, business is personal and I am the queen of personal and want to get into the trenches

dive into a brand new arena and author blogs for others - this is WAY out of my comfort zone

continue as i have to lose weight by the end of the year hit 84 total pounds total weigh loss and be a size 14
    (down from a size 24!)

to regain my hand strength, the long term goal to support my body enough to do yoga, can’t do that yet

How can you help Wendy? Thank you for asking! Set up that coffee date, help me understand how income is earned on a blog, see how we could help each other
