I like taking my kids on outings. We go to museums, planetariums, theaters, movies, etc. However, what I don’t like is having to pay for admission everywhere we go! That’s why I take advantage of all the free activities I can, including those offered at our local library.
Our library offers activities for kids of all ages. In addition to weekly storytimes for infants through pre-schoolers, there are one-time activities for toddlers through teens.
I just received the newsletter from our library and here’s a sample of the free activities available for kids:
Animal Tales:
Listen to some fabulous animal stories, including The Greedy Python by Eric Carle, and pet live animals from the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. Ages 3+
Antarctic Antics:
Watch the movie Antarctic Antics based on the book by Judy Sierra
, and afterwards make penguin arts and crafts! Ages 4+
Tween T-Shirt Surgery:
Bring an old t-shirt, or maybe two, and we’ll help you transform them into something new! Grades 3-5
Cooking with Non-Fiction:
Make homemade pizza while reading the book A Pizza the Size of the Sun by Jack Prelutsky. Grades 4-7
Sunday Movie Matinee:
Come watch The Simpsons Movie and eat popcorn! Grades 6-12.
In addition to the scheduled free kid activities at our library, we also play with the puzzles and computer games there. And of course, choosing a book, CD or DVD is a fun activity itself!
So I highly recommend you look into what your library has to offer. After paying those tax dollars, it’s free!
