Etsy as your Craft Business - this week’s fave Etsy shops.

Most of us will already know that Etsy is a wonderful resource for newbies who want to go into craft business for the first time, and many sellers have made a great success of selling through Etsy alone. Etsy shops are easy to set up, attractive, easy to use, they attract lots of customers, and best of all there is heaps of help and support for sellers.

Here is my weekly round-up of my 3 fave Etsy shops. Every week I review 3 Etsy shops from a Craft Business point of view rather than just commenting on yumminess of the products that are sold. This means I will be looking things like:

  • the photography
  • the product descriptions
  • the mix of products
  • and signs of marketing activity such as other websites or blogs

This week’s Etsy Faves…

tree-on-red.jpg
Tree on Red pendant - by Madison Craft Studio

Seller Name: Mother & Daughter team

Etsy Shop Name & Type: Madison Craft Studio

Website/Blog: None

CraftBoom! says: “These pendant are not only beautiful, they are unique (at least I’ve never seen jewelry made from sealed origami paper!). This uniqueness is a very good selling point, as is the price, which is very affordable. I particularly like the photography in their shop, the pendents are all photographed against a white background and the photos are all a similar size. This makes the shop look clean, tidy and organized (this way your attention is focused on the pendants and nothing else - which suits the product range). The product descriptions are also clear and informative. As for other marketing activity this shop has no blog, or other website.

6 sets of antique silver finish feather look heart toggle clasps with arrow bar by Lululalaland

Seller Name: Unknown

Etsy Shop Name: Lululalaland

Website/Blog: None

CraftBoom! says: “This is a jewelry supplies shop. What I like about the store besides the wide array of products and reasonable prices is the photography. The shots are very clear and the plain coloured backgrounds look great. The photography actually seems to add more value to the products, and they look great when grouped the page. The seller has also put coins beside some of the items to show scale which is also helpful. As for other marketing activity this shop has no blog.

Liberty, 10 x 8 print - by Unravelling

Seller Name: Susannah

tsy Shop Name & Type: Unravelling

Website/Blog: Flickr, Indiepublic

CraftBoom! says: “Susannah’s prints are lovely, not least because some of them are scenes of the place by the sea in which I grew up, Dorset, UK. So, as she is a photographer it goes without saying her photography is lovely! Her product descriptions are informative in that she states the size, materials, and the way in which the print will be packaged (which is helpful and provides reassurance that the goods will arrive in good condition). Susannah also makes the product descriptions personal, by using language which evokes feelings which I think suits her products. As for other marketing activity she has a presence on Flickr, Indiepublic, and she has cleverly stated in her seller profile that her work has appeared on Decor8 and also on Design Sponge which gives her work just that bit more kudos. If you’ve had your work appear on craft portal sites you should do the same :)

The Tree on Red pendant is absolutely gorgeous. Who would have thought of such a unique idea for jewellery from sealed origami paper. Goes to show… that you are only limited by your imagination.
