I really enjoy participating in MamaBlogga’s group writing projects because her themes are thought provoking and allow me to indulge in one of my favorite pastimes . . . writing about my girls.

This month’s theme is “I’m grateful for my children because…”

Seriously, how much time do you have? Because I could go on and on. I’m grateful for my children for countless reasons that range from monumental to mundane. Here are just a few of those reasons, in no particular order.

I’m grateful for my children because they…

– Show their love for me in creative ways, including steam secrets, heart-shaped pancakes and bouquets of wild flowers.

– Have established our home as the one on the street where all the kids come to play, and I always wanted that growing up.

– Make me laugh by telling jokes, sharing stories, singing songs and sometimes without even knowing it, like when I went to kiss them goodnight and found them here.

– Care for me when I’m not feeling well by bringing me pillows, covering me with a blanket and rubbing my head.

Help me cook dinner and sometimes do it all by themselves (when we’re having taco dip!)

– Are proof that angels exist.

– Get me cheering every weekend during their soccer games.

– Run to me smiling each afternoon they get off the bus.

– Gave me my favorite smell . . . their hair after a bath.

– Give me the opportunity to share with them (well at least two of them!) what it means to be a Red Sox fan.

– Fill our home with music and laughter.

– Make me feel needed, loved and appreciated.

I’ll stop here, because it doesn’t get any better than that.

Sigh-h-h. Lovely post. I’m just a teensy bit annoyed that my kids never gifted ME with sleeping in their closets!

Isn’t that what children on earth are? Angels?

Mine are much to old for magic sleepovers, but even teenagers can give the perfect moment . . . A “Thanks Mom, for dinner.” A “I’ll help you (with whatever).” A shared moment between one adult and one struggling on the edge of adulthood.
A smile at any time.

Now that my kids are older, I have the opportunity to watch them as they take the proverbial step forward and two back . . . they want to be self-confident, but still live with their own doubts. Yet, they try so hard to find the right solutions and to simply be better humans. I did something very right in raising them.

And I never forget that they are God’s blessing to me.
