As a father, one of the moments that I enjoy the most is when you see your child’s face light up with excitement and happiness. When your presence is the cause for that excitement and happiness the feeling is even more enjoyable.

It isn’t a big secret that today is Halloween and with that usually comes the Halloween parties at school, including the moment that just about every child looks forward to during school - the Halloween Parade!

My children look forward to Halloween for quite some time, and believe it or not it isn’t just because they get to fill a pillowcase - who uses those little pumpkin baskets anyways - with candy! They absolutely love the Halloween parade at school.

This afternoon I will be heading over to the school to secure my place along the parade route.

The moment that I am looking forward to is when I see my kids coming down the parade route as they continue to scan the crowd of parents and family members looking for a familiar face. They’re enjoying themselves and having a good time with their friends. But then it happens - they spot you in the crowd - and their face lights up.

That joy in their eyes simply cannot be explained. Their smile stretches from ear-to-ear.

Smile

As a dad, I encourage you to do whatever you can to schedule a little time away from work to get over to your kids’ school and watch all of the kids strut their stuff around the school. Whether you need to use an hour of vacation time, mysteriously come down with an illness, or schedule a phantom meeting - get over to the school to see the parade!

If your kids do not know you are coming, their smile and excitement will only be that much more genuine. You will not regret missing a little time from work and your kids will be thrilled to see you, I guarantee it!

I am your new best friend! I am so mad because my husband is often the only guy around some of this stuff. We have some similar values- be sure to take a look at parentingdiva.com

I intend to be at all such functions for both my daughters - starting with this years Christmas extravaganza at our toddlers childcare centre.

But I will admit to a slight feeling of dread mixed in with the joyous anticipation. Sure I can’t wait to see her and her groups performance - it’s sitting through the rest of the show that is filling me with dread….

@allena :: Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words! I’ll be sure to stop by and say hello.

@toddlerdaddy :: That is great that you plan to be there for them, I know they will appreciate it. And seeing them perform will be worth sitting through the rest of the show. :)
